On February 7, 2025, we received written notice from PA EPA regarding the fast approaching deadline of the initial extension of permission to operate fuel delivery system.
We recognize and understand that the department has been dealing with this matter for well over three years, however, our responsibility for it has only been since March 26, 2024, when we took ownership of the property and business. Given the short span of time for us to address while dealing with the usual problems of starting up we are requesting an extension from DEP to allow the storage tank system to remain in TOS status. An extension of eighteen months would provide us with sufficient time to fully engage in suitable funding options for replacement that will bring us in full compliance. It is our intent to fully replace the system bringing it to full compliance and ensuring the availability of fuel both regular and premium for our community.
White Pine is very grateful for the support and understanding that the department has extended during these past eleven months and pledges to continue our full attention to successful mitigation. We are further encouraged by the vast outpouring of support from the community, our sportspersons association and most of all our customers, who over 1500 strong signed petition for this project.
As we soon celebrate the accomplishment of one year in business, we are in a better position to explore a variety of funding sources to complete the project. During our short tenure, we did explore funding sources and unfortunately due to the timing of our inquiries many grant applications deadlines had passed. We did successfully apply for a grant from DCNR that has unfortunately been denied. As we approach our one-year anniversary and have an established track regard with the solid support of the Germania community, our elected trusted servants and sports organization we explore a variety of options for the funding process.
The following measures are being implemented as DEP considers the request for extension:
- We are re applying for DCNR grant with lessons learned from our initial application.
- We have a fresh list of twenty new grant sources that we are exploring for potential awards.
- We are reaching out to other sources such as endowments and support from other specialized sources.
- Our system is slated for inspection in March, and we are in the process of scheduling that inspection.
The continued availability of fuel in Galeton benefits the entire community and the sibling businesses. In addition to enhancing the goals of the PA Pilot project. Without readily available fueling spots, ATVer's and snowmobilers will be required to go much farther away and in doing so will not be supporting the establishments in Germania. During our short time in Galeton, we have heard countless numbers of visitors express a desire to set themselves up either seasonally or permanently to enjoy the serenity of Potter County, God's Country, and the warmth of the people here.
As this process unfolds, we ask for your prayers and continued support as needed in contacting various public servants and entities. We also request your continuing support in our venture by visiting frequently.
Respectfully,

is it leaking now? or is it that they are worried by future use?
Hi Barry:
Not leaking but put out of service due to age.
Allan
Have you tried Grants that consider historical establishments over a certain age .
Historical Society might be able to give you information on grants that would be available without pay backs.
Just a thought.
Hi Lana:
Thanks for reaching out. we have investigated historical designation but the process is unbelievably convoluted and would incur costs that we prefer to keep for the fuel project.

Hey Kim-
I just read an article concerning your gas pump situation. We travel regularly from Berks County to our campground in Clinton County and often end up into Potter County as well. I understand the need for a community resource such as yours and the impact not having it could pose on ATV tourism and the locals.
Obviously, the state departments you've been dealing with seem to be of no help, so I was wondering if you've tried working with your state legislators (or even the local or county officials)? They may be able to facilitate access to resources on your behalf or at the very least offer you contact information for resource opportunities. This was just a thought I wanted to share. I'm sure you may already be or have investigated these options. Best of luck to you. I'd be curious to hear how things work out.
Hi David:
Many thanks for your interest and suggestions. we have been in regular contact with local, state and federal elected trusted servants. They all recognize the need but offer little else. Kim
